ICRGU Virtual Hackathon
Schools are given the chance to compete for global recognition.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of the first ever ICRGU Hackathon! This October, schools from around the world will go head-to-head in a competition designed to spark creativity, critical thinking, and digital innovation.
This is an opportunity for 16-18 year olds to put classroom learning into action. Working in teams of four to five, students will develop skills that could be the catalyst for a future career in STEM.
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a fast-paced, collaborative event where teams are given a problem to solve. This can be anything from developing an app to launching a new tech product. Hackathons can last from 24-72 hours. Of course, our event is designed for high school students! The ICRGU hackathon challenge will be accessible during school hours, so students can spend the week turning their ideas into reality. Whether participants are confident with digital tools or brand new to tech, they’ll gain the same level of support. It’s all about thinking critically and working effectively as a team.
Why attend?
Hackathons are exciting because they’re inclusive, fast-moving, and full of possibility. They attract a diverse mix of people, such as graphic designers, IT developers, inventors, and entrepreneurs. This event is part of ICRGU’s wider commitment to enriching STEM education. Our goal is to inspire students with emerging technologies, and add real value to the curriculum through hands-on, project-based learning.
How will it work?
The ICRGU Hackathon will be a fully virtual experience, designed to fit flexibly around each school’s schedule. Once registered, students will be placed into teams and given access to a range of quality resources to help guide their project. Key features:
- Live, and on-demand sessions
- Practical how-to guides and engaging videos
- Live Q&A sessions with ICRGU academics and industry experts
ICRGU will deliver around two hours of content per day, and schools can choose how and when to access these resources across the platform.
How can we support teachers?
It’s completely understandable that teachers already have a lot on their plate(s). For this reason, we’ve designed the hackathon to be as flexible as possible. All content is provided by ICRGU, including step-by-step guides and resources for both students and teachers.
Teachers will receive a clear info pack in advance (no tech expertise required!). There’s no marking, no lesson planning, and no pressure. It’s simply an opportunity for teachers to support students in an exciting extracurricular activity that celebrates creativity and digital culture.
